There are fifteen (15) boxes of cereal in the cupboard downstairs.

This is how I always pictured adulthood.

Is it the 15 boxes or the cupboard downstairs that makes you say that? Cause I would associate adulthood with the latter.

Separately, I was actually going to ask you if anyone uses latter anymore or if we now just use later to refer to the second item in a two item list.

A cupboard? Downstairs? A cupboard downstairs? As in, downstairs from an upstairs? As in two floors? As in two floors in a house? In a house with cupboards in it? Am I the only one who thinks that makes you an adult? Any child can hoard cereal.

And never mind about the ladder. I'll be 70 and not yet have a ladder.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone using 'later' instead of 'latter' in that situation. I don't think I like it.

Yeah, I don't know why, but it's the cereal. Maybe because I have enough of it that it's obvious I'm not moving in the next week or two.

Are they boxes of sensible Special K or sugary cereal like Count Chocula?

If its 15 boxes of sensible cereal, then yes, you are an adult.

Same stuff I've always eaten - vaieties of Cheerios, Shredded Wheats, Rasin Brans, and Granolas. I can't eat Special K because I'm not part of the ad campaign; television has never shown me an image of a man eating that cereal, so I assume I'm not allowed.

Minus the shredded wheats I'm feeling you on the cereal. I alternate between cheerios and raisin bran. So delicious.

See, they're doing wonderful things these days with Shredded Wheat: honey-nut, cinnamon, not to mention all of the (non-vegetarian) frostings.
